Smart device users LG will be able to use the app to control Samsung’s and vice versa. The novelty was presented during the IFA and according to the brands, they work with other members of the Home Conectivity Alliance (HCA) to make this possible.

In other words, if you have the LG Thin app, you can use it to give commands to Samsung devices and the same will be possible in the Samsung app. In that sense, HCA’s role is to make this viable and provide a seamless connection between smart home appliances from different companies.

As Samsung itself said, a collaboration of this type is unprecedented in the industry and the benefits of this will directly impact the lives of customers of both brands. That is, it will not be necessary to form the entire ecosystem of the same manufacturer to use the intelligent functions in a single application.

Chanwoo Park is Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Appliances and Services Business Group at Samsung Electronics and commented on the news:

By allowing consumers to control multiple brands of home appliances and HVAC products through apps like SmartThings, we expect the smart home market to reach new levels of scale.

At first, the two companies mentioned are the first adopters, along with Vestel, among the 15 members of the HCA. However, the initiative is expected to be gradually expanded to ensure compatibility with more products in the category of the remaining companies.

It will officially roll out via updates to the SmartThings and ThinQ apps in Q4 2024. Finally, check out the latest news on Samsung’s Exynos chip and our review of LG’s Evo G3 TV.
