Owendo Mineral Port (OMP) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy has delivered phase 1 of its sponsorship program for the SNI 1 Public School in Owendo. This ambitious project, which extends over 5 years, aims to sustainably improve the learning conditions of children in the Commune of Owendo.
A significant commitment to education
Beyond its contribution to Gabon’s economic growth, OMP intends to increase its actions in favor of the well-being of the Owendo community, particularly in terms of education. In this spirit, OMP has implemented a 5-year sponsorship program, aimed at supporting the SNI 1 Public School in Owendo and offering the students who attend it a living and learning environment more conducive to their academic success.
The first phase of this major project, estimated at more than 800 million CFA francs, resulted in the complete rehabilitation of three out of seven buildings, in addition to the establishment’s toilets. In addition, to improve the working conditions of teachers and administrative staff, OMP also provided the establishment with office supplies, teaching and computer equipment.
« OMP’s sponsorship reflects their understanding of the importance of learning conditions in the school environment. We are delighted with this action and are confident that our students will be able to express their full potential in this new environment,” says Chimène GUIELOU MBERAGANA, Director of the SNI 1 public school.
A long-term project for a lasting impact
Aware of the importance of school in the personal development of the child, OMP will continue to work to improve the material conditions and emotional well-being of the students of the SNI 1 public school in Owendo.
Over the next four years, funds will be injected for the rehabilitation of remaining infrastructure, the development of outdoor spaces and the establishment of an excellence scholarship to support the parents of the best students in each class.
Through this initiative, supported by the Ministry of National Education, OMP aims to make this establishment a reference model in the commune of Owendo, and to drive a dynamic of modernization of public schools in Gabon.
“Access to quality education is essential for personal development as well as for the socio-economic development of our country. As a corporate citizen, it is our duty to contribute to the progress of the Owendo community by participating in the improvement of school conditions in order to train the elites of our country.” underlines Jean Telesphore ELLA ZE, General Director of OMP.
Located in the Barracuda industrial zone, Owendo Mineral Port (OMP) is a port infrastructure serving Gabon’s mining industry. A key player in port logistics, OMP plays a vital role in the export of minerals such as manganese and the import of construction materials.
Thanks to its own rail fleet, the mineral port provides a complete logistics service from the mine to the ship, thus contributing to the attractiveness of Gabon.
Inaugurated in 2016, OMP is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Gabonese State through the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC), the pan-African group Arise Ports & Logistics, and the Méridiam investment fund.
