Owendo Container Terminal unloads the longest ship that calls at the Port of Owendo

On Friday July 22, 2022, Owendo Container Terminal (OCT) handled the vessel “Düsseldorf Express”. At 294 meters long and 32.25 meters wide, it is the longest ship to call in Gabon since the commercial port of Owendo was commissioned in 1974.

OCT was thus able to process 2,059 twenty-foot equivalent containers depending on the specificities of the quay and the equipment used, with a productivity of 40 movements per hour. A performance that allows the container terminal to confirm its attractiveness. Thanks to the combined efforts of the players in Gabon’s logistics chain, Owendo Container Terminal thus contributes to the facilitation of trade.

“It is a privilege for us to have handled the longest container ship ever to dock in Gabonese waters. The synergy between the economic operators of the port area and OCT was a strong lever to carry out this operation. I congratulate the professionalism of our teams who deployed with commitment to mark this major event in the history of the Port of Owendo,” said Laurent GOUTARD, CEO of Owendo Container Terminal.

The success of this ship’s stopover is the result of the synergy between the Port Authority (OPRAG) and all the players in the supply chain (Gabonese customs, freight forwarders, carriers, CGC, NOIP, Scan Gabon …). It showcases the role of the port in supplying the country with essential products as well as the simplified administrative ecosystem made available to Gabonese importers and exporters.

Committed to the Green Terminal labeling process certified by Bureau Veritas, Owendo Container Terminal has also invested in the eco-responsibility of its equipment with the electrification of RTGs, the gradual replacement of sodium and halogen lighting with LED technology as well as as the continuous training of operational teams.
