Owendo container terminal is equipped with new gantries to boost its output –

The CY-CLASS vessel carrying two quay gantry cranes (STS) and five park gantry cranes (RTG) bound for Owendo Container Terminal (OCT), left Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port last April. This cutting-edge equipment aims to increase the competitiveness of the port of Owendo and reform the production tool to guarantee global reference standards in this area. The new gantries will notably double the handling capacity of ships arriving at Owendo and optimize container storage space at the Terminal.

At a cost of more than 20 billion CFA francs, the acquisition and installation of new gantries at OCT is one of the key elements of the Africa Global Logistics Group’s investment plan in Gabon for the year 2024. This plan investment was presented on March 7, 2024 at the Palais de la Rénovation in Libreville, to the President of the Transition, President of the Republic of Gabon, Head of State His Excellency General Brice Clotaire OLIGUI NGUEMA by Philippe LABONNE, president of Africa Global Logistics Group (AGL).

With a total weight of 3,800 tonnes, the gantries are transported on board a ship 152.64 meters long. Their arrival is scheduled for this month of May 2024, with commissioning scheduled for August 2024. This acquisition marks a significant step in the development of OCT and reinforces its commitment to greater operational efficiency and a better response to the expectations of its customers. .

Owendo Container Terminal (OCT) is part of the AGL group and is the operator of the container terminal at the port of Owendo in Gabon. A major player in the country’s logistics chain, OCT employs nearly 300 Gabonese people and develops a subcontracting policy which generates nearly a thousand indirect jobs. Each year, OCT also carries out actions to support local populations in partnership with NGOs in many areas linked in particular to education and the environment.
