The Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) reported that the belongings of the inmates of the National Institute for Female Orientation (INOF), located in Los Teques (Miranda), were thrown away during the last search carried out by the authorities in charge.
The NGO confirmed this information after the relatives of the detainees visited them on Monday, September 2.
“They left them with only what they were wearing and even threw milk at the children who remained in the compound with their mothers,” the NGO stated on its X account (formerly Twitter).
According to the OVP, this search in the prison was carried out by the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) and by Immediate Reaction Groups (GRI).
“In addition to the psychological damage to which the women deprived of their liberty were subjected, the relatives said that they will now have to find money from where they do not have any to replace everything that was thrown away from them,” she added.

OVP urged the State to guarantee the right to life of children in INOF
The OVP reminded the State that children have the right to protection, access to essential goods for their well-being and development, as well as to live in dignified conditions, regardless of the circumstances of their mothers.
“To deprive them of their resources is to deprive them of their dignity and their fundamental right to a life in adequate conditions, violating the State’s obligation to ensure the best interests of the child in any action,” he said.
On the other hand, the NGO stated that it is informing international organizations about the violation of human rights that occurred at INOF.
“For the regime, the damage they cause to the female inmate population is not enough; they also mercilessly attack innocent children who are forced to live through hell alongside their mothers,” the OVP said.
The GNB’s seizure of the prison
On Friday, August 29, the OVP reported that a protest by female inmates took place at the INOF. Inmates of this prison shouted “freedom” while they were banging on the bars of the cell.
Following the protest, residents of the area reported that GNB officers took over the prison, according to a publication by this NGO in X.
The detainees claimed they were being tortured and asked the press to be called, according to the OVP. Residents in the vicinity of the facility claimed they could smell a strong odor of tear gas.
The NGO said it is documenting the entire situation. The goal is to send the complaints to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and other human rights NGOs.
