Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) had previously spoken out against the regular increase in the federal CO2 tax set by the ÖVP and the Greens as part of the eco-social tax reform. The increase must be suspended until the inflation rate is back to a normal level, according to the demand from Lower Austria made together with the coalition partner FPÖ.
Plakolm defended the adopted eco-social tax reform. As a country, Austria has shown how it can provide its tax system with incentives and ecologize its tax system.
