Overwatch 2 breaks the player record of the first part by far

It was to be expected that Overwatch 2 surpassed its predecessor in terms of player numbers and now we have official confirmation that the first game’s record has been broken – and not too close.

Overwatch 2 breaks records

Within the first ten days of Overwatch 2, over 25 million players have set foot in the sequel to the popular hero shooter. The switch to a free-to-play model with a significantly lower barrier to entry may have had a major impact. After all, Overwatch cost almost 40 euros back then.

As Blizzard reports, the numbers have now tripled compared to the player record of the first part. “The launch of Overwatch 2 was such an important moment for Blizzard,” President Mike Ybarra said in a statement.

“We’re excited to bring new players from around the world to the vibrant Overwatch universe while welcoming back the existing Blizzard community,” said Ybarra. “This is just the beginning – there are so many ways to explore the world of Overwatch and we can’t wait for players to experience everything the team is developing for the live game.”

After the first records are broken, Overwatch 2 just has to survive longer than its predecessor.

Blizzard achieved this positive development despite the many server problems, DDoS attacks and forced phone numbers for the release of the shooter. As an apology for all of these inconveniences, most of which now seem resolved, Blizzard is giving away in-game items and holding double XP weekends.

“We’ve broadly stabilized the game, and we’ve made great strides in fixing or improving issues some of you are facing. We aim to consistently investigate issues as they arise, work quickly to fix them, and continue to To make the status of Overwatch 2 transparent to our community,” Blizzard said, explaining that it is continuing to work on stability and to resolve other emerging issues and bugs.
