Overwatch 2 beta: what goals for Blizzard?

From April 26 to May 17, the luckiest players can participate in the beta ofOverwatch 2 and see the work done by Blizzard on the second episode of the license. A work on which the studio takes a step back by publishing yesterday, on its official website, a developer journal. And in a first point, he explains their primary goals on the development of this beta:

Our main ambitions with this first beta were to test the transition to five players once morest five players, the new Push mode as well as the general balancing and stability of the servers.

It is worth remembering that the first Overwatch, released in 2016, features six-player versus six-player games. And if the change may seem minimal, it has its share of consequences and in particular on a certain type of hero.

Hero problems, but solutions

Because inevitably, the compositions change: instead of having two tanks, two DPS and two supports, the players decided to remove the second tank. Therefore, the characters who play Support have less protection and can be killed more easily. An observation observed by Blizzard in alpha which rectified things in Beta but which unfortunately did not increase the popularity of the role: therefore, the search for matches drags on if the player has chosen to play Tank or DPS. But don’t panic, the developers seem to have the solution:

We clearly heard that Support players feel they have less content to get excited regarding than Tank or DPS players. In the long term, we think the most effective way to fix this problem is to add new Support heroes to the game (…) as well as come up with ideas for refreshing the abilities of existing heroes.

Of course, these are not the only changes in sight for Blizzard. The developers indicate that the interface, the audio balance, as well as several graphic elements are not yet ready to be deployed and do not appear in this beta. Ditto for the new scoreboard, which is not yet finalized. And in general, here is their goal between now and the release of the PvP mode (Player once morest Player) of Overwatch 2:

This beast is our first public test contributing to Overwatch 2’s future PvP release. Until then, we plan to add more content like heroes, maps, and features. There will be a significant bunch of polish and tweaks added through an improved interface, bug fixes and more.
