Overcoming the Ski Season Crisis: Insights from Katharina Truppe and the ÖSV Women’s Technical Team

The past ski season was almost something to forget for the entire ÖSV women’s technical team.

Part of it was Katharina Truppe, who also fell far short of expectations. The 27-year-old speaks in an interview with the “small newspaper“openly regarding her feelings last winter and only gives an idea of how much she was emotionally affected by the negative series.

“In the last ski season, I was more like crying. When I think regarding it now, I don’t know how I survived this winter. I stopped laughing,” Truppe begins.

Troupe: “I’ve never shed so many tears”

The Carinthian mightn’t explain the crisis herself: “I didn’t realize that you can get one on the lid so often. I was so empty that I didn’t know how to get out of this whirlpool. Whatever I did nothing worked, nothing.”

“It’s never been like that for me. And I’ve never shed so many tears. I was really exhausted,” Troupe continues emotionally. She then only hoped that the season would be over as soon as possible.

“I struggled everywhere, at some point everything had to come out. I was just slow and that’s when you start to struggle. I don’t know when the crack came,” the 2022 Olympic champion looks back questioningly. Troupe also learned lessons from the difficult times.

Problems in the team? “Must have gone wrong”

For the Carinthian, it can’t be a coincidence that the entire ÖSV technical team fell so far short of expectations: “In our group something must have gone wrong in general, because otherwise it can’t just go backwards.” Truppe does not explain exactly what went wrong.

After the “horror trip” it should be better once more in the coming season. The 27-year-old dared to make a new start and switched to the ski brand Völkl. Truppe will soon be able to test the new skis extensively. In mid-August, the ÖSV team will take off for a four-week training camp in Argentina.
