CHALLENGES in the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector must be addressed immediately in an effort to help encourage national economic growth.

“A number of challenges in developing the MSME sector must receive serious attention and be addressed immediately,” said Deputy Chair of the Indonesian MPR, Lestari Moerdijat, in a written statement, Friday (18/10).

Note from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop UKM) that currently the MSME sector is facing various challenges to develop due to lack of access to technology, lack of digital literacy, and unsustainable profits.

National economic targets in 2045 include per capita income of up to US$30,000. Meanwhile, currently Indonesia‘s per capita income is only around US$5,000.

According to Lestari, the MSME sector could be one of the sectors that can be relied upon to pursue an increase in national income.

Rerie, Lestari’s nickname, believes that developing an entrepreneurial ecosystem for the community is a strategic step that must be taken.

Rerie, who is also a legislator from Electoral District II, Central Java, hopes that the government at the central and regional levels will consistently encourage a number of efforts to overcome various challenges in the national MSME sector.

The member of the NasDem Party High Council assesses that with the growing development of the business ecosystem and government support to overcome a number of existing obstacles, the MSME sector is able to support the rate of national economic growth. (*/Z-2)
