“I don’t really know where I’m looking most of the time unless I’m talking to someone. Like, I know I’m talking to you, so I try to look in your direction.” In a TiKTok video that now has more than 3.5 million views, Tobdy Addison recounted the misadventure that happened to him when he was 17 years old.
Now 21, he has become a blind football player and online content creator. However, his handicap has often put obstacles in his way. Born sighted, he began to lose his sight and at the age of 11. Today, he only sees at 4%.
“Oh, are you enjoying the view?”
At that time, the teenager chained the training sessions at the gym. While he is in full exercise, a woman exclaims: “Oh, are you enjoying the view?”.

“At first I didn’t know she was talking to me because I wasn’t doing anything wrong,” he explains. “Why do you keep staring at me? Stop, you’re scary!” Insists his interlocutor. Tobdy then understands that this woman thinks he is watching her. He then grabs his cane to show her that he is blind. But she “didn’t want to know anything”.
“It was hard”
Eventually, a gym manager will step in to ask the young man to leave. “It’s really sad that some women feel uncomfortable or anxious in a gym because of a small percentage of people who acted inappropriately,” he explains.
And to conclude: “It was hard, it damaged my self-confidence a lot and gave me the impression that being blind was a problem, that it might cause problems.”
