The room for maneuver is small, but the Jura Government is not indifferent to the problems of ice rinks for making ice. This is in substance the response given Wednesday by the executive to an oral question asked by MP Ivan Godat in Parliament. The elected official from the Vert-es and CS-POP group wondered if the canton might intervene to postpone the start of certain ice hockey championships. According to him, making ice cream at 30 degrees is absurd. The Minister of Sports indicated that certain calendars were imposed by the Swiss federation.

Martial Courtet, however, explained that several clubs including HC Delémont-Vallée had taken steps with the Swiss federation for several seasons to address this issue. For this 2023-2024 season, the HCDV 1st league championship will start next week rather than in mid-September. “The problem will also be discussed with the sports services at the French-speaking level with the aim of raising awareness among the Swiss federation of this issue,” underlined the Minister of Sports at the podium. /alr
