Over the weekend, a federal police vehicle was struck by another vehicle during a significant anti-drug operation.

During the “Star action,” a drunk driver crashed into a federal traffic police vehicle amidst an operation targeting organized drug distribution networks. The authorities were able to inspect 1,770 vehicles, 30 trains, and two buses, along with 2,144 people in Belgium, resulting in 20 seized vehicles, 157 individuals found with drugs, 18 found intoxicated, and 39 arrests made. The operation led to the confiscation of quantities of drugs, including 1,448.82 grams of marijuana. Additionally, six weapons and €47,279 in cash were discovered.

During the course of the operation, a vehicle collided into a federal traffic police vehicle on the E17, which was fleeing police control. The driver, on parole and under the influence of drugs, escaped on foot but was eventually apprehended two hours later. The authorities found €4,900 in cash in his vehicle.

The federal road police of Namur also initiated a chase on Friday, which resulted in the arrest of a Dutch national. The local police of Balen/Dessel/Mol seized two kilos of gold from two Belgian nationals, known for drug trafficking and other offenses, who were also found in possession of €14,800.

During this “Star action”, which led to the seizure of 20 vehicles and the arrest of 39 people, a drunk driver crashed into a federal traffic police vehicle.

The action targeted organized drug distribution networks. It made it possible to check 1,770 vehicles, 30 trains and two buses in Belgium, as well as 2,144 people. Twenty vehicles were seized, 157 people were found in possession of drugs and 18 intoxicated, details the federal police. Thirty-nine people were arrested.

The operation made it possible to get hold of various quantities of drugs, mainly marijuana (1,448.82 grams). Six weapons and a total of 47,279 euros in cash were also discovered.

During the action, a federal traffic police vehicle was hit on Saturday by a vehicle fleeing control on the E17, from Waregem towards the center of Gentbrugge. The driver fled on foot following crashing his car. He was found following two hours of searching. The individual was on parole and wearing an electronic bracelet. He was under the influence of drugs and the sum of 4,900 euros in cash was found in his car.

A chase was also initiated on Friday by the federal road police of Namur, allowing the arrest of a Dutch national.

Two kilos of gold were also seized by the local police of Balen/Dessel/Mol who checked on Saturday two Belgian nationals, known for various offenses of detention and drug trafficking. The individuals were also in possession of 14,800 euros.



Overall, the “Star action” conducted by Belgian authorities resulted in the seizure of drugs, weapons, and large amounts of cash, as well as multiple arrests. The operation aimed to dismantle organized drug distribution networks and involved extensive vehicle and person checks. Despite the success of the operation, there were still incidents of reckless behavior, such as a drunk driver crashing into a federal traffic police vehicle. Nevertheless, the efforts of law enforcement led to the apprehension of several individuals involved in drug trafficking and related offenses.
