A violent storm caused the roof of the building in the port city of Bahía Blanca to collapse on Saturday, authorities said. An ice skating competition was held at the facility. The mayor’s office said there were still people under the rubble. The fire department continued its rescue work.
According to the weather service, Bahía Blanca was hit by winds of more than 140 kilometers per hour. These were accompanied by heavy rainfall. There was a partial power outage in the city and trees and power poles fell.
“We call on the population to take protective measures and not to use public streets,” said the mayor’s statement.
