As can be seen from the answers of the insurance companies – members of the association, 6,424 cases of insurance fraud were ascertained at the expense of the insurance companies in 2022, with the estimate of the economic dimension of these benefits reaching 10 million euros.
It is noted that there is an increase in the number of fraud cases ascertained in relation to the previous year (2021), which proves that the fight against insurance fraud is a primary goal for the Greek insurance market.
Furthermore, the research shows that fraud is found in all insurance industries and is not limited to the automobile industry.
Karolos Saias, president of the Insurance Fraud Prevention and Response Committee, said: “Insurance fraud is a phenomenon that concerns insurance companies worldwide as it affects the foundations of the insurance institution, burdening not only the insurance companies but mainly the insured. The EAEE and the Greek insurance market are systematically active in the fight against it with action in the areas of information, the development of partnerships with Authorities and agencies, the internal organization and education of the market and the collection of statistics. As the survey shows, significant progress has been made in the organization of the market, as more cases of fraud are detected. We will intensify our work in this direction as it is our duty to protect our insured.”
