More than 60% of health centers in the Sudanese capital are closed, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday. In Khartoum, “61% of health facilities are closed and only 16% are functioning normally. Many patients with chronic diseases, such as kidney disease, diabetes and cancer, do not have access to health facilities or the medicines they need,” said WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at a press conference.

As a reminder, for the past week, the Sudanese regular army has been facing a paramilitary force, which has provoked bloody fighting, particularly in the capital, Khartoum. The fighting has already led to the flight of several thousand people to Chad, a border country.

Critical humanitarian situation

The humanitarian situation in Sudan is considered critical, in a country where a third of the population suffers from hunger. And faced with the explosive situation, Paris and Washington organized the evacuation of their nationals. Other countries have also evacuated their embassies.
