Italy is inevitably in the grip of the heat. The heat wave in Italy will last at least until mid-August but with higher values expected at the beginning of the week. Between today and tomorrow the maximum values will exceed 40 degrees on the central-eastern Po Valley, as well as on the internal areas of the central Tyrrhenian regions, Puglia, Basilicata, Sardinia and Cosenza. The synoptic situation, on a European scale is “characterized by the presence of a depression loop stretching between the North Atlantic and the Azores, with the humid ocean flow that then tends to rise due to the presence of an anticyclonic field over central-southern Europe and the Mediterranean basin”, explains the Cmi. The meteorological situation in Italy is therefore “characterized by intense heat again and widespread stability, except for some heat storms near the mountainous areas”.
