Travel strains of the international performers and Corona cases in the team (“The virus is a Gfrast”) had caused some problems, the director told journalists. On the other hand, there was no crisis in the performances.
The ImPulsTanz edition, which took place without corona restrictions, included 17 premieres and 23 Austrian premieres, with a total of 54 productions and 122 performances (including eleven additional performances). 46 companies or artists were guests. There was also a rich supporting program with installations, exhibitions and discussions as well as 230 workshops with a total of 3,000 participants. As part of the “Public Moves” track, 128 dance classes were held at five locations, with 8,000 people registered five days before the end of the series of events.
The festival recorded a total of around 86,700 paying visitors, plus around 51,000 visitors with free admission, which will probably result in a total number of visitors of 137,700, according to the press documents. The fact that there are not many tickets left triggers good but also sad feelings for him, Regensburger said: “We want everyone who is interested in our art form in the theaters.”
As an outstanding highlight, the artistic director referred to the Austrian premiere of the choreography that Trajal Harrell from the Zurich Schauspielhaus devised for Keith Jarrett’s “Cologne Concert” and which will premiere on Friday at the Volkstheater. Also on the program is the “Radio Concert” by the Spanish flamenco dancer Israel Galván, which can be seen for the first time on Friday at ORF Radiokulturhaus. His dance will be recorded for a music CD. Finally, on Sunday, the Young Choreographers’ Award, endowed with 5,000 euros and an artistic residency at ImPulsTanz 2023, will be presented.
