A Video from Weggis in Lucerne is currently attracting an unexpectedly large amount of attention on the social network. It shows a white car skilfully drifting around tight corners on a race track. Reason: The RC Drift Palace celebrated the reopening last weekend. After eight weeks of intensive renovation, the new racetrack is a sight to behold in the Swiss drift scene. “People even came from western Switzerland and France,” says Diego Arter, co-owner of the RC Drift Palace. About 35 riders ventured onto the almost 150 meter long track on Saturday.

RC-Drift is short for drifting with radio-controlled cars. The special thing regarding the model cars is that they are not trimmed for speed, but the power transmission has been adjusted so that you can slide around the curves better. There are no limits, especially when it comes to the design of the bodywork. A team of seven created a drift paradise on two floors in a 300 square meter room. In the lower area, before the conversion, was the track that presented itself in the Lucerne area. This has been completely redesigned and is now in Japanese design. All signs and texts were displayed in Japanese script. Drifting became popular in Japan and has a large following.

overwhelming feedback

According to Arter, the video reached over 100,000 views on Facebook within 24 hours and was shared almost 2,500 times. «The joy regarding it is huge. We had already thought that something would happen following our post on social media – but not to this extent. We really didn’t expect so much feedback, »says Arter on request. The car was driven by 27-year-old Marco Thali, a team member at RC Drift Palace. For the video, the employees were inspired by other drifting clips. So they would have only taken two shots and tried to get the best out of it without much effort. Arter: “Our goal was to make the scene look as real as possible. Judging from the video comments, we obviously succeeded.”

Of the RC Drift Palace is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Admission costs between five and 15 francs. Admission is free for spectators.
