Ovechkin on the night of December 14 done a hat-trick against the Chicago Blackhawks (7-3), breaking the 800 goals mark in the regular season, which earlier in the history of the league was only managed by Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801).
On the night of December 24, Ovechkin surpassed Howe’s achievement by becoming the second-best scorer in league history.
