At the II Ibero-American Congress of Medical Students (Cicem) 2023, two Human Medicine students had outstanding participation in the academic and scientific competitions of the event, which included students from all over Ibero-America.

From October 24 to 28, Juan Diego Pichihua and Diego Guevara visited Cancún to meet with other medical students and professionals in the field and exchange knowledge through keynote lectures, talks with experts, workshops, the “Desafío” contest and other activities. academic and scientific.

Diego Guevara, a fifth-year student, was part of a team of international students and competed in the academic competition, in which he took first place. To achieve this, he had to overcome 4 phases, which tested his knowledge in basic and clinical-surgical sciences. Diego expressed satisfaction with the experience, and highlighted that his participation in this international congress contributes significantly to his personal growth and his development as a future doctor.

For his part, Juan Diego Pichihua, at the same level, presented the scientific poster titled “Frequency of hospital discharges due to Cerebrovascular Disease in Peruvian health facilities between the years 2015 to 2022”, which he developed with his colleagues Diego Guevara and Fabrizio Valdivia , under the advice of Dr. José Carlos del Carmen, professor at the faculty. This presentation was part of the scientific competition and was carried out in front of a jury and those attending the congress.

This participation earned Juan Diego and his team an honorable mention for their outstanding commitment to medical research.

Both students agree on their plans to continue developing in their careers, making the most of the semesters ahead. Likewise, they point out that, for the moment, they are focused on continuing to improve their research and the implementation of new techniques, as well as representing their faculty in future activities at a national and international level.

In the medium term, future doctors will strengthen contact with their teachers and colleagues, foster academic collaborations with the foreign students and professionals they met, aspire to successfully complete the medical internship, and seek opportunities to pursue a specialty.

Now, students are looking forward to the announcement of the venues for the Regional Scientific Conferences in Peru, which will take place in February, and will explore the possibility of representing their faculty at this and other scientific events.
