Outrage over Eni’s Astronomical Electricity Bills: Victims Speak Out and Demand Transparency

Hundreds of customers of Italian energy supplier ‘Eni’ have expressed their anger in a Facebook group following receiving astronomical electricity bills.

During this summer period, and before going on vacation, some French people thought they might save money by signing contracts with the Italian electricity supplier “Eni” at the market price. Quickly, they realized that their bill had exploded.

In a Facebook group titled “Victims of Eni and their shenanigans”, which has more than 3,000 members, customers have denounced the supplier’s practices and the lack of transparency. “We had the pleasant surprise of paying an additional 1,983.83 euros just before the school holidays,” wrote a customer.

“I received an email telling me that I had an invoice for 1,290 euros. I didn’t understand. I immediately called Eni asking them for an explanation. They replied that they had warned us of the rise in the kilowatt hour. I looked in my mail and in my emails, I received nothing, ”said Anna, Eni customer, on CNEWS.

“After checking, they compensated me for 209 euros. We still had 1,080 euros left to give,” she added.

For its part, the Italian supplier assured that “the customers concerned have been informed of this price increase, at least 30 days before the entry into force of the new contract, in accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Code”. This increase is explained in particular by the dependence of alternative energy suppliers on the market price.
