Outlook 2034: Imea presents projections for the future of agribusiness in Mato Grosso
On the morning of this Wednesday (9/10), the auditorium of the Association of Soy and Corn Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprosoja-MT), in Cuiabá, hosted the launch event of “Outlook 2034 – Agribusiness Projections in Mato Grosso de 2024 to 2034”.
The event, which included a press conference, presented the main trends and projections for agricultural crops and livestock production in the state over the next 10 years. The Mato-Grossense Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) led the studies and analyses, in partnership with the Mato-Grossense Institute of Agribusiness (IAGRO) and with the support of Aprosoja-MT.
Outlook 2034 methodology
To improve the methodology used in Outlook 2034 projections, Imea established a strategic partnership with the Faculty of Statistics of the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT). This partnership improved forecasts, offering sector agents accurate and comprehensive data, essential for making strategic decisions in agribusiness.
According to Imea superintendent, Cleiton Gauer, Mato Grosso will produce 148.94 million tons of grains and feathers in 2034. Meat production – beef, pork and poultry – is also expected to grow, reaching 2.80 million tons.
Projections indicate significant growth in cultivated areas in Mato Grosso until 2034. The cotton area should expand by 40.62%, corn by 60.20%, and soybean by 33.18%. In livestock farming, Outlook 2034 points to a 7.49% increase in beef production, driven by investments in technology and genetics. Pig farming and poultry farming will also see significant advances, with production growth of 40.60% and 30.97%, respectively, over the next decade.
Population growth
World population growth, which is expected to reach 8.81 billion people in 2034, will bring new challenges to food production. Underdeveloped countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, will experience the highest rates of population growth. The demand for food will continue to rise, and Mato Grosso, as a major producer, will have a strategic role in meeting this global demand.
To ensure that these projections come to fruition, the state needs to intensify investments in infrastructure and logistics. Projects such as the Central-West Integration Railway (FICO) and the Olacyr de Moraes Authorized Transport Railway (FATO), which will connect Cuiabá to Lucas do Rio Verde, are essential to reduce transport costs and increase the competitiveness of Mato Grosso agribusiness. gross.
The president of the Famato System, Vilmondes Tomain, highlighted the relevance of the study conducted by Imea, one of the houses that make up the Famato System and which is now a reference both in Brazil and on the international scene. “Imea offers a solid base of data and analysis that are essential for making strategic decisions, and its role in building a prosperous future for agribusiness in Mato Grosso is unquestionable,” he stated.
Storage is critical
Vilmondes also highlighted the urgent need for investment in storage infrastructure, as agricultural production in the state has grown exponentially. “Our warehouses are the bodies of trucks”, he commented, warning about the risk of logistical and storage bottlenecks that could compromise the state’s competitiveness in the global market.
The president of Aprosoja Mato Grosso, Lucas Luis Costa Beber, was also present at the event, reinforcing the importance of providing producers with accurate information, such as that presented in Outlook 2034, to support decision-making in the field. “Our commitment is to support farmers so that they can plan safely and efficiently, always supported by data and analysis that guarantee the best performance in their activities”, he commented.
Expansion of agricultural production
Lucas Beber also highlighted that the growth of agricultural production in the state can be achieved in a sustainable manner, respecting existing pasture areas and avoiding the opening of new areas. “Mato Grosso has already established itself as a global reference in environmental responsibility, showing that it is possible to produce on a large scale without compromising our natural resources”, he emphasized.
The Administrative and Financial director of Famato, Robson Marques, and the superintendent of the National Rural Learning Service (Senar-MT), Marcelo Lupatini, also participated in the event.
