Kyle Gass caused an uproar with a comment regarding the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Comedy rock band Tenacious D were on stage in Sydney, Australia on Sunday when Gus was asked to make a wish following being presented with a cake for his 64th birthday.

He replied:Don’t miss Trump next time.”

In a statement on Instagram, Jack Black – the second member of Tenacious D – said he was “taken aback” by the comment. “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” the comedian and actor wrote.

Black canceled the band’s world tour, saying that he did not feel it was “appropriate to continue” and that the rest of the group’s “creative plans are on hold”.

Black added that he is “grateful for the support and understanding” of fans.

The dispute had already led to the postponement of Tuesday’s concert in Newcastle, New South Wales.

Gus apologized for the comment via Instagram. The line I improvised on stage Sunday night in Sydney was wildly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.

“I do not condone violence of any kind, in any form, once morest anyone. What happened was a tragedy and I am incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I deeply apologize to those I have disappointed and I am truly sorry for any pain I have caused.”

Gus also “broken up” with his agent following the incident. “Because of what happened, we parted ways,” Michael Greene of Greene Talent told BBC News.

While many in the crowd in Sydney can be heard laughing in videos from the concert, the comment sparked angry reactions on social media, with X owner Elon Musk calling it “mean”.

Senator Ralph Babbett – the United Australia Party’s sole MP – called for the band to be deported. In a statement, he said the duo should be “immediately removed from the country following wishing for Donald Trump to be assassinated at their concert in Sydney”.
