Lhe Bayonne Festival ended on Sunday July 30 in the Basque city, following bringing together 1.3 million participants over five days. Barely two days later, several pharmacies in the city found themselves out of stock of self-tests, reports France Bleu. And for good reason, the festivities have led to an outbreak of Covid-19 cases, confirmed by the region’s screening laboratories.

At the Rigaudières pharmacy in Bayonne, the forty self-tests in stock were completely sold out between Monday and Tuesday. “From two self-tests per week, we went to fifteen per day”, testifies the pharmacist Cécile Rigaudières to the local radio. As for the Somed center at Arsenal, a screening laboratory, “in three days, I did around thirty tests”, says nurse Alexandra Fauvelle, who adds that “between 70 and 80% of antigenic tests are positive”.

No serious cases in hospital

If the increase in cases is indisputable, Public Health France, however, tempers the extent of this epidemic recovery: “We are at 13 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, specifies Laurent Filleul, head of the regional unit of New-Aquitaine of the health agency. We remain at a low level of circulation and, for the moment, there are no serious cases in the hospital. »
