Polls that place him at the door of the second round, a party that celebrates its 100,000th member… But sponsorships at half mast. With only 291 of these forms completed by elected officials to allow the far-right candidate to participate in the presidential election, Éric Zemmour is skating, two months before the ballot.
Far-right candidate Éric Zemmour assured Sunday that it was “very possible” that he would not obtain the 500 sponsorships necessary to run for president, the RN also expressing “real uncertainty” for Marine Le Pen. The reason: an insufficient number of promises.
“I have no certainty, it’s very hard, we spend hours on the phone, my friend Philippe de Villiers talks for hours with the mayors, Guillaume Peltier talks for hours with the mayors, I myself call the mayors to try to convince them, ”insisted the ex-controversialist in the Grand rendez-vous Europe 1 / CNews / Les Echos.
Deadline, March 4
“I assure you that it is very possible”, he insisted when he was asked regarding the possibility of not having the 500 signatures of elected officials who must have been filed by March 4, 6:00 p.m., at the Constitutional Council to be able to participate in the ballot on April 10 and 24.
“The mayors tell me: yes, you are great, we agree with you, but they are afraid “since their name is made public, affirmed the candidate of Reconquest! who canceled a trip to Reunion this week to devote himself to this task. Failure to obtain the 500 sponsorships would, according to him, render the “election illegitimate”.
Éric Zemmour, Marine Le Pen but also the rebellious Jean-Luc Mélenchon regularly complain of having difficulty obtaining the 500 signatures necessary to claim the Elysée when they are much better placed in the polls than others candidates who have already collected the necessary sponsorships.
RN and LFI in uncertainty
“All of this no longer makes sense,” RN spokesman Laurent Jacobelli said on Franceinfo on Sunday. “In all the polls, Marine Le Pen is Emmanuel Macron’s main opponent”, but “other less representative candidates are already qualified”, he added, citing Jean Lassalle and Nathalie Arthaud.
“As we speak, there is a real uncertainty, we do not know if we will have our 500 sponsorships. We are still missing 80 sponsorship promises to be sure of reaching 500 signatures,” he said, denouncing a “completely locked system that no longer works” with “mayors sometimes under the influence of local barons”.
At the last score of the Constitutional Council last Thursday, six candidates, declared or not, have already obtained the 500 sponsorships: Valérie Pécresse, Emmanuel Macron, Anne Hidalgo, Nathalie Arthaud, Fabien Roussel and Jean Lassalle.
Yannick Jadot (490 sponsorships) is almost there, which is not yet the case for Jean-Luc Mélenchon (370), Marine Le Pen (366), Éric Zemmour (291), Philippe Poutou (199), Christiane Taubira ( 86) or Hélène Thouy (74).
