Following the confirmation of the 6-month suspended sentence for the offense of defamation once morest Minister Mame Mbaye Niang, Ousmane Sonko is not giving up. The collective of its lawyers announces its intention to appeal for a ruling as soon as this decision is notified. In addition, an appeal is planned once morest the rejection of Ousmane Sonko’s file, deemed incomplete.
In a note addressed to the press, the collective underlines that despite this conviction, Ousmane Sonko remains eligible, having recovered all of his civil and political rights with an order issued by the president of the Dakar Hors-Classe District Court on December 14, 2023. This order annulled the measure of removal from the electoral lists taken by the Administration.

Concerning the immediate implications of the Supreme Court’s decision, the collective recalls that the withdrawal of Ousmane Sonko from the electoral lists is conditioned by the existence of a new removal procedure, following his re-registration recorded by the order of December 14 2023, under article L40-2 of the Electoral Code.
Furthermore, Ousmane Sonko’s lawyers announce an appeal to the Constitutional Council once morest the “unfounded refusal to examine his file”. The Constitutional Council will be seized upon official notification to Maître Ciré Clédor LY, representative of candidate Ousmane Sonko, according to the note.
