President Macky Sall, elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2019, announced in early July that he will not run for president in 2024.

The investiture of Ousmane Sonko took place on Thursday during a meeting of the High Regulatory Authority of the Party (HARP), an organ of Pastef, which validated the decisions made by delegates from the 46 departments of Senegal and the diaspora. .
