A Chinese study reveals that loneliness increases the risk of early death and impacts the body as much as the mind.
If it is fought as much as possible with the elderly, loneliness can strike at any age. Moreover, in France, more than 10% of people over 15 consider themselves “in a situation of relational isolation”. This is the worrying observation made by the Fondation de France in a study published at the beginning of the year.
Worse still: the phenomenon would affect people who are unemployed or on low incomes more. However, being isolated is detrimental to both mental and physical health. However, a hitherto unknown effect has been brought to light by Chinese researchers.
#Loneliness | This year, the isolation of young people has exploded since 21% of 15-30 year olds are in a situation of isolation.
This is a figure that has doubled in a year and it is an age at which isolation is not expected.

Indeed, in a study published in Nature Human Behavior, researchers found that living in isolation might reduce our life expectancy. But the sad thing is that this premature mortality might easily be avoided.
A loneliness that generates cancers and cardiovascular problems
Researchers from Harbin Medical University conducted a meta-analysis of more than 90 studies looking at the dangers of loneliness. The data set represents a potential panel of more than 2 million people. First, the researchers determined whether isolation increased the risk of disease.
Then they analyzed the causes of death in isolated patients. However, they discovered that single people are more likely to die prematurely. Worse still, they found that they were dying of serious illnesses such as cancers or cardiovascular complications.
This proliferation of serious pathologies among solo sailors would be intimately related to their way of life. According to the findings of the researchers, isolated people are less able to exercise or eat a balanced diet. Isolation would also push to cconsume more tobacco or alcohol.
Awareness-raising actions implemented in other countries around the world
Faced with this alarming situation, which affects all generations, several countries have decided to act. In the United States, it is recommended to participate in an activity that stimulates passion like walking, art or singing. Authorities also urge lonely people to talk to someone close (including family) when they feel depressed.
In France, Fondation de France also acts to limit social isolation, especially among young people. The foundation supports associations and projects promoting social ties such as community cafés or social support structures.
