Oued Oum Rabîi: call for the acceleration of the resolution of the problem

The report of “the temporary exploratory mission to stop on the situation of the wadi Oum Rabiî” was presented, Tuesday, within the framework of a plenary session of the House of Representatives. The said report calls for the acceleration of the implementation of the integrated project to deal with the problems that impact the Oued Oum Rabiî, in particular those related to wastewater and their harmful effect on biodiversity, the fish population and artisanal fishing professionals. practicing in the region.

The report, which originated in the initiative set up by the Committee on Infrastructure, Energy, Mines and the Environment, in the House of Representatives, recommends the rapid development of this project which concerns the second long river in Morocco (more than 555 km). This action is part of a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Equipment and Water and all the ministerial departments concerned.

The document insists on the mobilization of the resources necessary for the establishment of partnerships and sectoral plans, taking into account the factors of population growth and urbanization. The report also encourages expanding the first study carried out by the Ministry of Equipment and Water which only concerns the mouth of the river to cover an overall distance of 15 km from the mouth to the Sidi Daoui dam.

Before the project is executed, the Ministry of Equipment and Water must make every effort to carry out sand extraction whenever the situation requires it. The extracted sands will be exploited by the administration for the purpose of supporting development projects for the benefit of the population of the region. As a reminder, this exploratory mission was set up at the request of the group of the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS) to examine the situation of the river in the province of El Jadida, due in particular to the drop in flow and pollution threatening biodiversity and people.
