Generations of people in this country have grown up with his television skits and comedies – many without knowing that Otto Schenk is also an internationally renowned opera director who has directed more often than anyone at the New York Met.
After studying at the Max Reinhardt Seminar, Otto Schenk began his career at the Vienna Volkstheater and at the Theater in der Josefstadt, which he later directed for ten years. Right from the start he worked in parallel as an actor and director, and as early as 1957 the first opera productions were added, and even today he still describes music as his great savior and helper.
Countless productions and roles later, he says goodbye to the stage in 2021; but in a recent interview he admits that it still gives him happiness when people listen to him – and of course we give him this pleasure with the greatest pleasure.
