Ottawa: Three hospitals relax their measures against COVID-19

Mask requirements were relaxed Monday at three Ottawa hospitals, although they are still mandatory in clinical areas.

Clinical areas include patient rooms, emergency rooms, clinics, waiting rooms and imaging rooms, according to the Ottawa Sun newspaper.

As far as corridors, elevators or cafeterias are concerned, the mask becomes optional, but recommended.

These relaxations concern The Royal, Montfort and Queensway Carleton hospitals.

The hospitals said the changes are “a low-risk step that gives people more flexibility and helps them recover as a community.”

“This decision was not taken lightly, given the importance that we place on the protection of our staff and our patients, especially those whose illness makes them more vulnerable to infections”, perhaps read in the Queensway Carleton statement.

It is also added that the decision was partly made considering the new COVID-19 indicators which, when talking regarding outbreaks or hospitalizations, are on the decline, while the sewage indicators have stabilized.

The hospitals also added that they are monitoring the situation and will adjust the recommendations if necessary.
