Otra Puse Returns with New Album and Single “Sāp” After 11-Year Hiatus

On November 12, the guests of the Musical Bank were groups “Another Puse” the leader Normunds Pauniņšwho presented the new song to the audience “hurts”.

The theme of the song arose one autumn evening, sitting at the table and just strumming the guitar, when suddenly the melody came. Everything happened quickly and casually, so to speak, without effort. Suddenly the melody was ready and all that remained was to find the words. At this moment, Jānis Čubars, the guitarist of the group “Otra Puse”, connected almost by accident, and after listening to the melody, he was there the next day with ready-made lyrics for the new song.

Next came the creation of the framework or arrangement of the song. The band’s keyboardist Ivars Makstnieks put his master’s hand here, whose synthesizer sounds did not leave anyone in doubt and the song was ready! In the end, it was all processed by sound director Jānis Kalve (“Good Recording Studio”) and the song “Sāp” was created.

After an 11-year hiatus, the group “Otra Puse” will release an album that collects songs released in the recent past, including “Sākums”, “Tu esi man”, “Es krytu Tev”, “Alejas”, as well as completely new and unheard songs compositions. In honor of this event, the group will go on tour to please their listeners both with new compositions and with songs that have already become classics, such as “After the rain”, “Vēstules”, “Eskatis”, “Draw me”, etc.

At the events, you will have the opportunity to get your hands on the new album, which will be released in limited quantities. After the concert – photo shoot with the band, autographs and talks.

The group “Otra Puse” has existed since 1992. Five albums have been released so far (including a remix album and the Christmas album “Gingerbread Heart”), as well as a compilation of the best songs of the group in the double album “Best Songs. Sheet music. Words”. Two of these albums – “Nakts vai rīts” (2009) and “Uzzemīte mani” (2013) have won the Latvian Music of the Year award as the best pop music albums. The song “Ave pali” in a duet with Aija Andrejeva won the first place in the “Music Bank” in 2011, while “Uzzemine mani” in a duet with Antra Stafeckas became the second most recognized song of the year in the “Music Bank” in 2013. In 2022, the group “Otra Puse” celebrated its 30th anniversary, celebrating it with concerts all over Latvia.

During the program, Normunds Pauniņš judged the new song “Labirints” by the group “Triānas parks”. Listen to the assessment in the audio attachment!

Musical Bank Welcomes Back “Otra Puse”!

Well, well, well! November 12 marked a delightful return for the musical maestros known as “Otra Puse”, with their leader, the ever-charismatic Normunds Pauniņš, gracing the stage to unveil a brand-new gem titled “Sāp” (that’s “Hurts” for the linguistically challenged among us!).

Picture this: one autumn evening, Normunds is just casually plucking away at his guitar, and BAM! – inspiration strikes like a caffeinated squirrel! I mean, it’s like the melody just jumped out and slapped him in the face. And what does he do? He just sits there, as you do, and waits for the words to magically appear. Sounds like a Monday morning for most, am I right?

But fret not! One phone call to fellow bandmate Jānis Čubars, the group’s guitarist, and voilà! Jānis shows up the next day with lyrics in hand, like a literary magician pulling rabbits out of a hat. Honestly, I don’t know whether to be inspired or just utterly jealous at the sheer talent of these chaps!

Next on the agenda was the arrangement, and who better than Ivars Makstnieks, the keyboardist, to sprinkle some of that “I’m-a-genius” magic dust over the song? His synthesizer skills evidently didn’t leave anyone with a doubt – it was clear we were listening to a hit in the making! The pièce de résistance was then handed off to Jānis Kalve at “Good Recording Studio”. Imagine the studio: one guy on a board, a couple of cats hanging around for ambiance, and magic happens.

But wait, there’s more! After an 11-year hiatus (that’s longer than most of my relationships), “Otra Puse” is making a jubilant return with an album that compiles their best tunes from the past along with new tracks. Talk about a ‘greatest hits’ type of event – we all love nostalgia, don’t we? The album promises to bring back classics like “After the Rain” and “Vēstules” alongside new tracks that are likely about love, heartbreak, and only occasionally about deep philosophical subjects (probably about cake).

In true rockstar fashion, they’ll be touring to meet fans and fleece them of their hard-earned cash for some limited edition albums! You’ll even get a chance to snap photos and get autographs – perfect for those who want to relive their teenager years of cringy band obsession! I mean, who hasn’t had a crush on a member of their favorite band? You can even tell your friends you ‘totally hung out’ with the band… even if it was just for 2.5 seconds.

To give you a bit of context: “Otra Puse” has been serenading our ears since 1992. Five albums down the line, including festive ‘Gingerbread Heart,’ they’ve collected a treasure trove of hits, including awards for being the pop music cream of the crop! Want proof? They took home accolades for “Nakts vai rīts” and “Uzzemīte mani”, which I can only assume translates to “That was a good night” and “Please don’t throw me out of the club,” respectively.

In 2022, they celebrated a staggering 30 years of making us hum along and occasionally cry into our pillows with beautiful ballads. Let’s be honest, if that isn’t an achievement, I don’t know what is! Take that, uni degree!

Throughout the Musical Bank event, our boy Normunds even had some critiques up his sleeve, judging a new track titled “Labirints” by Triānas parks. I can’t help but think – either he’s got the ear of an angel or he’s the kind of mate who gives you an honest opinion about your singing in the shower. Either way, it promises to keep audiences engaged!

So, dear readers, if you’re looking to relive the magic, grab that new album, head to a concert, and make sure your phone is charged for those selfies. Just remember, whether you’re a diehard fan or just someone who appreciates a good melody, “Otra Puse” is back, and they’re ready to hurt your feels with their new tune and soothe them with the classics!

On November 12, the audience at the Musical Bank was treated to a captivating performance by the beloved group “Otra Puse”, led by the charismatic Normunds Pauniņš. During the event, they unveiled their latest track titled “Sāp,” much to the delight of their fans.

The inspiration for the song struck one serene autumn evening while Pauniņš was casually strumming his guitar at a table, the ambience ripe for creativity. To his surprise, a melody emerged effortlessly, as though it had been waiting to be discovered. What followed was a serendipitous collaboration with Jānis Čubars, the group’s talented guitarist. By the next day, Čubars had crafted poignant lyrics that perfectly complemented the melody.

The next phase involved refining the song’s arrangement, with keyboardist Ivars Makstnieks skillfully contributing his expertise. His synthesizer sounds infused the track with depth and richness, solidifying the song’s potential. Ultimately, the finishing touches were expertly applied by sound director Jānis Kalve from “Good Recording Studio,” culminating in the polished final product known as “Sāp.”
