“Such decisions will create an escape of customers and it is quite simply catastrophic”. “I predict volumes down, in the other than Total, by 30 to 50%,” he added. “ The government put pressure on Total, now what do we do for the others? he wondered.
3,500 stations in France
TotalEnergies will apply a discount at the pump of 20 cents per liter between September and November in all its service stations, then 10 cents per liter for the rest of the year. The Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire also said he was in favor on Saturday to an increase of 18 to 30 cents of the discount on the liter of fuels. With the rebate from the oil and gas giant, “you would have fuel at 1.50 euros in some service stations in France”, he said.
Of some 11,000 service stations in France, only TotalEnergies and its 3,500 stations are however affected by the voluntary reduction of 20 cents at the pump. “The only ones who can do that is Total”, because it extracts, refines and sells the oil itself, underlines Francis Pousse.
