ÖSV ace Marc Digruber is giving up his skis following 13 years. He already has a new job – which also takes him to alpine regions.
Frankenfels/Scheibbs – Resignations in skiing have recently increased. After the biathlon star Eleonora Fauner unexpectedly ended her career recently, the Austrian slalom runner Marc Digruber has now called it a day. Looking back, gratitude prevails for him. His future employer has already been determined – and is not surprising.

ÖSV ace Digruber ends his career: “I’m very happy that I was able to realize my childhood dream”
The 35-year-old now announced the end of his career in a video post on Instagram: “I ended my sporting career. In any case, thank you for keeping your fingers crossed, for the incredible moments I’ve had over the last few years and throughout my career,” Digruber said in the emotional clip with a laugh and a cry in his eye.
The slalom specialist “noticed that the time had come to draw a line,” the responsible Ski Austria department quoted him in a statement. “I’ve devoted my whole life to skiing and I’m very happy that I was able to make my childhood dream come true,” said Digruber, who has competed 94 times in the World Cup and finished in the top ten six times. He thanked Instagram “for so many, many memories and emotions” and “the priceless moments” during his active time.
After the end of his career: ÖSV ace Digruber slips into a police uniform from now on
For the slalom runner, who celebrated his best result in 2016 in France’s Val d’Isère when he finished fourth, following career is also before career. He competed in the World Cup in Flachau in his home country for the last time at the beginning of March, and from now on he will work as a police officer in Scheibbs, Lower Austria. He follows his compatriot Ramona Siebenhofer, who will also join the police service following her career as a ski racer ends.
The Ministry of the Interior of the Alpine Republic also commented on its newcomer: “When one door closes, another usually opens.” In the form of the police uniform, this had been open to Digruber “for a long time” who, according to his own statement, “made the way in Head in the direction of the alpine police”.
“I’m now looking forward to spending time with my family,” says retired slalom star Digruber
Digruber, who was able to win three European Cups as an active player, now wants to fulfill his role as a father of two. “Now I’m looking forward to spending time with my family,” he announced. At the end, he expressly thanked those around him.
Unlike Digruber, his alpine skiing colleague Sofia Goggia never thought of ending her career, despite numerous injuries. (wuc)
