The Mexican drug lord has been behind bars for 21 years and is expected to be released this August.

Cardenas Guillen, known as ‘The Friend Killer’will be released in the United States under a plea agreement.

According to information from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) of Department of JusticeThe Mexican will be released from prison tomorrow, August 30.

He is currently still detained in a Texas prison.

In Mexico, he still faces several pending charges related to organized crime and drug trafficking.

However, it will be up to the U.S. government to determine whether Cárdenas Guillén will be deported to Mexico or remain in the neighboring country under supervised release.

The Mexican drug lord was arrested by the Mexican Army in Tamaulipasin 2003 and imprisoned in the maximum security prison of Almoloyain it State of Mexico.

Cardenas was accused of organized crime y damage to health in various formsbeing deported to the United States in 2007.

In 2009 he accepted a plea deal for cocaine and marijuana trafficking, threats against police officers, FBI and the DEA and money laundering.
