Oshin Derieuw was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the under 66kg boxing tournament at the Paris Olympics on Saturday. Derieuw, 37, was beaten by unanimous decision (5-0) by China’s Yang Liu, the No. 2 seed in the tournament and the reigning world champion.
Four of five judges declared Liu the winner of the first of three three-minute rounds. The Chinese then received the majority of points in the second round. The Roularienne played her all in the third round but had to admit defeat unanimously: 29-28, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28.
Derieuw had a first-round bye as the No. 7 seed. She is competing in her first Olympic Games and has a professional record of 19 wins, including 7 by knockout, for 0 losses at welterweight.
The 2021 Golden Glove winner secured her ticket at the European Games in Krakow last year, where she won the silver medal after being beaten by Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli in the final.
