Oscars 2023: The five main things to look forward to

The 95th edition of the world’s most prestigious showbiz Academy Awards ceremony is being held on Sunday, with the film ‘Everything Everyone Worry All At Once’ leading the way with 11 nominations.

Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Oscars for a third time after his first hosting experience was abysmal when he accidentally named ‘La La Land’ as Best Picture in 2017.

Assuming the correct envelopes are handed out this year, here are the five main things we’re hoping for from Hollywood’s biggest night.

Songs from Rihanna and Telugu film RRR instead of Lady Gaga

All five best-nominated songs are invited to perform live at the Oscars.

This means that pop superstar Rihanna will be seen on stage after a long wait.

Perhaps the biggest surprise will be the Indian song ‘Natu Natu’ which has created a worldwide sensation. This song from the South Indian film RRR also won the Golden Globe Award.

But many people will also be sad to not see Lady Gaga on stage this time.

Best Actress

This category has the potential to carry on tradition and break records.

If ‘Everything Everyone Worries All At Once’ star Michelle Yeh beats Tar star Cate Blanchett, she will become the first Asian woman to win the best actress award.

If Cate Blanchett wins, she will become only the eighth actress in history to win three Oscars.

Andrea Riseborough could certainly be the unexpected winner who received a nomination for ‘To Leslie’.

The question is who presents the award?

Traditionally the winner of the previous year’s best actor award presents the award in the next edition.

But a decade-long ban on host-slapping Will Smith at the Oscars seems unlikely to continue.

‘Sleep Chat’

Hopefully the sound of ‘Slapchat’ (Will Smith’s slap) will be heard again this year and many memes or funny comments will be heard on it.

Oscar organizers say the plan is to acknowledge it, and Jimmy Kimmel will probably make the audience laugh at it.

‘Marvelous Bassett’

Before the viral meme, Angela Bassett was known for her enviable acting skills.

With such famous films as ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ and ‘Boys in the Hood’ it is surprising that Bessett has never won an Oscar.

It will be even more surprising if she marks her first win as a superhero in Marvel.

Noise on ‘All Quiet’

Karl Marx says ‘History repeats itself first as tragedy and second time as irony.’

But he probably wasn’t talking about the Oscars, but if ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ wins Best Picture, it will be the first film to win Hollywood’s biggest award twice.

If there’s any movie that can stop ‘Everything Everyone Worries All At Once’ on Sunday, it’s probably this one.
