The Oscar for best short documentary went to The last repair shop of Ben Proudfoot and Chris Bowers. 20 days in Mariupol it is instead the best documentary. the film by Mstyslav Chernov with Michelle Mizner and Raney Aronson-Rath, recounts the first days of the Russian invasion in Ukraine and the siege and destruction of the city of Mariupol two years ago. Mstyslav Chernov said that he never wanted to shoot the film, for which he won best documentary. “I wish Russia had never attacked Ukraine, never occupied its cities and killed tens of thousands of Ukrainians. I cannot change history, but all of us, all together we can ensure that the facts are recognized and the truth prevails,” he said. Chernov, an Associated Press journalist, was stuck with colleagues on the front line in Mariupol when the Russian attack began.

Trump

Towards the end of the evening, Kimmel instead made a couple of vitriolic jokes regarding Donald Trump, who had strongly criticized his hosting: the presenter thanked the former president for following the evening, but then closed by asking him if he wasn’t too late in prison to still be in front of the television.

Rai

Finally, a side note for the evening which returned to Rai hosted by journalist Alberto Matano. Guests in the studio, among others, Gabriele Muccino, Claudio Santamaria, Claudia Gerini and the journalist Paola Jacobbi. Obvious comments and more than predictable interventions characterized this truly tired Italian live broadcast. It’s true that the film is a huge favourite Oppenheimer left little room for surprises, except Santamaria’s few comments on the film Barbieand the appearance of Stefania Sandrelli, everything else was boring.
