Pakistani-British actor Riz Ahmed has been chosen to host the Academy nominations and announce the nominees for the 95th Academy Awards.
He became the first person of Pakistani origin to receive this honour.
Last year, Riz Ahmed won the Oscar award as the co-writer, producer and actor of the best live-action short film ‘The Long Goodbye’.
He was nominated for an Oscar in 2021 after his best performance in the American drama film Sound of Metal.
After working in the Oscar-nominated thriller ‘Nightcrawler’, Riz Ahmed starred in the HBO limited series ‘The Night Of’.
He was awarded an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie in recognition of his work in the series.
He will next star in the sci-fi drama ‘Fingernails’ with Oscar nominee Jesse Buckley and the film ‘The Long Goodbye’ directed by Anil Kariya.

According to Arab News, the Academy announced on its official website that ‘Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams have been selected to host the Academy’s nominations and announce the nominees for the 95th Oscars.’
Nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 24. The 95th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 12 from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and will be broadcast live to more than 200 countries around the world.
Last week, Riz Ahmed announced that his production company Left Handed Films has joined the Pakistani film ‘Joyland’ as an executive producer.
He said that ‘Left Handed Films is proud to be a part of Joyland. Our motto is ‘Bain Jao’ and Saeem Sadiq’s unique film is also like that.’
He wrote in an Instagram post: ‘Joyland is the cornerstone. And moving forward is easy. The first Pakistani film at Cannes, the first film to win an award, the first film to be shortlisted at the Oscars, and a strange love story that faced multiple bans. The skill with which this film broke our hearts is more than breaking any glass ceiling it broke.’
