The tablet market has grown once more following the pandemic and the launch of robust options promises to make the experience with these “big” devices a little safer.

And that’s what the new Oscal Siper 8 promises. The robust tablet was launched by the Blackview subsidiary and promises to deliver good performance combined with a powerful construction that even comes with a special handle.

Additionally, it has a dedicated PC mode that might be a good choice for those looking for a tablet to work or study.

But is it a good option in this segment? This is what TudoCelular will answer in this complete analysis.

Design and accessories

The Oscal Spider 8 is a robust tablet and you can tell that just by looking at it. The device is IP68 certified for protection once morest water up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes.

In addition, there is IP69K for accidental drops of up to 1 meter, construction within the military standard of MIL-STD-810H certification and protection with Gorilla Glass 5 for the display. In other words, it’s a complete combo that you usually find on Blackview smartphones.

Another important detail is that the finish of this tablet is made of very resistant plastic and you will also notice that there is structural reinforcement in the corners, something that is ideal for preventing problems following a fall.

The Spider 8 also has a curious handle on the back so you can hold it more easily. Just screw the accessory tightly and fit it in your hand to use the device without fear of dropping it.

The handle also ends up helping to avoid the fatigue of holding the tablet for long hours, since the device weighs 854 grams.

As it is a tablet with several certifications and protections, all Spider 8 inputs are protected. This happens on the USB-C port, on the P2 for headphones and even in the SIM card drawer.

It is a way to protect this device once morest the ingress of water and dust. This tablet has a hybrid slot so you can use two SIM chips for a 4G connection or a chip and card for memory expansion.

On the 14.9 mm sides, we have the stereo audio output, volume buttons and also the power button. At the rear there is also a triangular camera module with two sensors and an LED flash.

The manufacturer sends in the Spider 8 box a complete set consisting of: a wrench so you can screw the back strap, manuals, charging cable, a 33-watt charger with USB-C standard, a stylus pen, an adapter of USB and a SIM chip key.

Screen and hardware

The Oscal Spider 8 has a 10.1-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD Plus resolution and a 16 by 10 aspect ratio, but the refresh rate is only 60 Hz. The maximum brightness can reach 300 nits, something that is not very good for use in sunlight.

Still, the stylus present in the tablet package is efficient and allows you to navigate the interface or play with drawing. It doesn’t have the precision of an S Pen, but it’s very efficient for recreational use.

In the screen settings, you can still use a mode with increased contrast or change the color temperature. It’s a good choice if you don’t like the default display calibration.

And, as there is no fingerprint sensor, Oscal decided to use facial recognition on the Spider 8. It is not very accurate nor secure, but it is a good feature to prevent the user from having to enter their password all the time.

Now, if you’re looking for a tablet to watch movies and series or even watch TudoCelular on YouTube, the Spider 8 has a good multimedia set.

This is because this 10-inch screen is aligned with stereo sound that brings excellent balance between Treble, Mids and Bass. Furthermore, the sound emitted by the tablet is quite loud and clear.

We also have the Unisoc T616 chipset in this tablet. The GPU is the Mali G57. The processor works with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage by default, but you can also use the virtual RAM feature to reach up to 16 GB.

Furthermore, you can also use a TF card to make the tablet reach 1TB of internal storage.

In tests with games, we can say that CoDi Mobile ran well with Graphic Quality on Medium and Frame Rate on High. However, it was not possible to enable Antialising, and of all the resources it was only possible to enable Luneta Realista.

PUBG ran reasonably well with HD Graphics and High Frame Rate. Antialising and other features were enabled. In terms of connections, we have 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi and GPS for navigation.

The Oscal Spider 8 also has a 13,000 mAh battery. In our standard autonomy tests, it was possible to achieve up to 20 hours of video with half brightness.

A good brand for this device, and the 33 watt charging will also help fill this tank.

Software

Considered one of the positive points of Oscal Spider 8, the software really is a pleasant surprise. This is because the tablet comes out of the box with Android 13 running underneath the DokeOS 3.0 interface.

In general, the system is well optimized and this results in a fluid experience on a daily basis. You can navigate easily and open applications quickly.

An important detail is also that the manufacturer took care to adjust the software for a larger screen. Therefore, the vast majority of applications can take advantage of this format by displaying two columns, as in the settings.

You can still use two apps in split screen for efficient multitasking in tablet mode, but the big star of this tablet is, without a doubt, PC mode.

By choosing this option in settings, you should be able to open all windowed applications similar to what we have on Windows, Mac or ChromeOS.

Furthermore, connecting a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard will give you an experience very similar to ChromeOS. Not to mention that it will also be possible to navigate using the touch screen thanks to the shortcuts available in the system.

This makes the Spider 8 a very good tablet for anyone who needs a hybrid device for entertainment and even work.

Oscal’s update policy isn’t very clear, but it is running the August security patch, which is a pleasant surprise.

Cmeras

The Oscal Spider 8 was announced with a 16 megapixel main rear camera and the secondary sensor is apparently only used for depth effects.

This is because the brand does not even mention its capacity in the promotional material. The front camera for selfies and video calls is 13 megapixels.

In our tests carried out in good light conditions, we can see that the main sensor was able to capture good photos. We have colors moving towards more vibrant tones and some imperfections in the corners of the photos.

That is, in those points that are out of focus of the camera.

Still, using the standard mode or automatic HDR, it is possible to get decent photos with the Spider 8. Now, if you use the zoom, things start to get complicated.

This is because we are talking regarding purely digital zoom and this “crop” makes the image lose definition and the results are clearly not pleasing. It lacks definition and the colors look strange.

When recording video with the rear camera it is possible to have Full HD records at 30 frames and, here, we have ok records, but the lack of stabilization forces the user to be very careful not to move too much.

Now, the 13 megapixel selfie camera is efficient for what it aims to do. There is some loss of detail here and there and we also have a color calibration that pulls towards the most vivid tones.

Recording videos with this sensor is also ok. Nothing too surprising. In short, we are talking regarding a tablet and these devices rarely seek to have advanced cameras.

Finished

The Oscal Spider 8 is a very efficient tablet for what it proposes. It has that robust construction that can be a help for many professionals or even for parents looking for a more resistant tablet for their children.

The IP68 and IP68K protection make a difference, its processing power is as expected for its price range and the screen is also good. Not to mention that the stereo sound system is very powerful.

Perhaps the lack of better cameras might be a relevant problem for those who usually record various moments of everyday life. Still, the presence of Android 13 with PC mode is a positive surprise for the Oscal Spider 8.

Cameras leave something to be desired Low brightness screen Imported product (must be taxed)

Where to buy

The tablet is not officially sold in Brazil, but you can import paying close to R$ 1,200 not AliExpress. At this price point and with this robust construction, the Oscal Spider 8 has few competitors.

So, if you liked his proposal and want to take one home, our recommendation is just to save some extra money to pay the import fees.
