Orlando City SC announced the signing of homegrown goalkeeper Javier Otero until the end of the 2024 MLS season, with options for 2025 and 2026.
Otero, 20, joined Orlando’s academy in 2017, before arriving at Orlando City B in 2020. “Javier is someone we’ve seen show real talent and a willingness to work hard to continue to develop his game at every level. of our club,” said Luiz Muzzi, executive vice president of soccer operations and general manager of Orlando City SC.
“He has impressed us in training each company and has shown what he is capable of in MLS NEXT Pro. We are excited to see him complete our development path to the first team and reward him with this opportunity.”
Otero, who was recently called up for some friendly matches that the Venezuelan team played in the United States, has made 32 appearances in his career for Orlando City B, in which he made 146 saves and had seven games in which he did not concede goals.
Otero, who has yet to make his first-team debut, has been called up by Orlando City SC on several occasions, and is the purple team’s second homegrown goalkeeper, along with Mason Stajduhar. The first team goalkeepers are completed by Pedro Gallese and Adam Grinwis.
