Orlando City arguably in the running for Rapids Ercan Kara – Soccer

The departure from the training camp in Turkey has already taken place, SK Rapid has come to terms with the premature departure of Ercan Kara.

The striker is moving overseas, with a lucrative contract in Major League Soccer. Now it seems to be clear where the Viennese actually ends up. US media reports that the 26-year-old will sign with MLS club Orlando City.

The medical check and the signing of the contract are still pending, but Rapid has already reached an agreement with the Florida franchise.

In Orlando, the city of 280,000, which is home to Disney World and numerous other theme parks, Kara is to receive a contract as a “designated player”. This means that he does not fall into the usual salary cap-linked salary scheme, but can earn significantly more.

With the Portuguese superstar Nani, who was hired by Venezia a few days ago, a “designated player” recently left the “Lions”.

Kara wouldn’t be Orlando’s only new designated player, by the way. The club are also close to signing 21-year-old Uruguayan winger Facunda Torres.

Because the striker would have been under contract with SK Rapid for another six months, Rapid can also look forward to a fee. Just like his ex-club SV Horn, who sold Kara to SCR in January 2020 and is now collecting part of the fee from the USA.

Incidentally, Orlando’s most prominent player is also an attacker: the Brazilian Alexandre Pato (32) recently signed a new contract until the end of 2022.
