Actor Orlando Bloom, who is engaged to singer Katy Perry, has opened up regarding the most terrifying ordeal he’s ever had eu to go through and that left him in a dark place mentally. The 45-year-old comedian opened up regarding the horrific accident he suffered as a teenager, in honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10.
“When I was 19, I fell three stories out of a window and broke my back.“, said the star of “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
Orlando Bloom, International Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, spoke in a video shared by the organization on Instagram. “I was very lucky to survive the fall because my spinal cord was still intact. I was told for the first four days that I might never walk once more.“
“It was really the start of what has been a long and painful journey for me in recognizing and understanding some of the patterns that had been in my life that led me to have many accidents“, he explained. “And the highlight was breaking my back, which was a near death experience.“.
Orlando Bloom underwent spinal surgery, before embarking on a complicated healing journey during which he had to wear braces.
“I would say the months following the fall were a pretty dark time“, he admitted. “I, who had always been very active in my life, suddenly felt very limited and was in a lot of pain.“
Bloom detailed the accident in an Instagram post last year, saying he had “narrowly escaped death“.
Alongside a photo of himself riding his bike, the famous actor wrote: “This is me in my back brace circa 1998, regarding 3 months following falling 3 stories and crushing my spine, narrowly escaping death and paralysis.”
“I am grateful every day for my members who allow me to push my limits and live my life on the edge (safer now).“
