Sudan – The Sudanese human rights organization “Emergency Lawyers” announced that 25 civilians were killed and 100 others injured in clashes between the Sudanese army and the “Rapid Support” forces, in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.

The organization added that “25 people were killed and 100 wounded in clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in the western neighborhoods of El Fasher city in the past two days.”

For his part, a medical source at Al-Fasher Southern Hospital told Agence France-Presse that “dozens of civilian injuries arrived at the hospital due to Tuesday’s clashes.”

The source added, requesting that his identity not be revealed, “We are suffering from a shortage of blood and personnel.”

Eyewitnesses told Agence France-Presse that “the clashes prompted hundreds of displaced people to flee from Abu Shouk camp to the nearby city of El Fasher following the battles reached the heart of the camp.”

The Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, currently control four of the capitals of the five states of Darfur, except for El Fasher, which includes armed groups that had pledged until recently to “stand at the same distance from both sides of the war,” which prevented them from sliding into fighting. .

But this position changed last week with armed groups announcing that they “decided to fight once morest the Rapid Support Forces due to the “provocations and violations” these forces were accused of committing in El Fasher,” according to Agence France-Presse.

North Darfur state has been witnessing clashes on two fronts for days, the first between the “Rapid Support” forces and the armed movements west of El Fasher and in the city of Melit, which is located 100 kilometers north of it, and the second between the “Rapid Support” forces and the army in El Fasher itself.

The El Fasher clashes led to escalation of international concern over the fate of the city, which was a major center for the distribution of relief and aid.

Within one year, the war in Sudan led to thousands of deaths, including up to 15,000 people in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, according to United Nations experts.

The war pushed the country, with a population of 48 million, to the brink of famine, destroyed infrastructure, and displaced more than 8.5 million people, according to the United Nations.

“Emergency Lawyers” is an organization that documents violations committed once morest civilians in the ongoing war between the army and the “Rapid Support” since April 15, 2023.
