“Let’s not part for a long time and live happily ever after in our next life. Mom was my everything and joy in life. I’m sorry, thank you, and I love you.”

Kang Mi-ok (58), who fell unconscious while working and suffered brain death, died on the 26th of last month after saving the lives of five people through organ donation.

According to the Korea Organ Tissue Donation Agency, on the 22nd of last month, Kang, who was working at a private business, suddenly lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital. Four days later, Mr. Kang donated his heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys (left and right) to five people, respectively, and died.

Born in Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do as the sixth of five sons and two daughters, Kang was a warm person who took care of people in need first with a bright and lively personality. He was active and got along well with people, and he liked learning various things such as nanta and line dance.

The family agreed to organ donation, inheriting the will of Mr. Kang, who said that he would like to donate organs if he died due to an unexpected accident during his lifetime.

Lee Jin-ah, Kang’s daughter, said, “When I was in the 4th grade of elementary school, I lost my father in death, and my older sister passed away in an accident at the age of 22. The only ones left in this world are my mother and I, but it seems that she went through hardships and left. In heaven, she is healthy and happy. I want you to live a life,” he said, explaining the reason for his decision to donate.
