Brussels taxi drivers can now offer their services via the Uber application, the company announced on Wednesday. This development will benefit both drivers and users, welcomes Uber. “Drivers will spend less time driving around looking for passengers or waiting at taxi stands, and more time with a passenger on board. It also allows them to offer their services to new customer segments, both local than international, which they might not have been able to serve before”welcomes the director of operations of the giant in Belgium, Laurent Slits.
The Uber Taxi service will give passengers the opportunity to see “the price range” in advance, but the taximeter will still be used to determine the final fare, paid through the app.
Uber’s goal is to have all taxis on its app by 2025. The company says that in 2021, more than 120,000 taxi drivers have signed up, and a “a number of European markets have seen triple-digit growth in the number of taxi rides, such as Austria, Germany, Spain and Turkey”.
