Order increased to 100 jets: Jetblue conquers the throne of the largest Airbus A220 customer

The American airline is increasing its order for Airbus A220s by 30 aircraft. Jetblue now leads the list of the largest A220 customers – just ahead of another airline from the USA.

Ordered in 2018 Jetblue Airways not only 60 Airbus A220. The American airline also secured options for 60 more planes. This made her the first customer following Airbus took over the C-Series from Bombardier and renamed it the A220.

In 2019, the airline converted 10 of the options into firm orders, bringing the total to 70 A220-300s on order. On Tuesday (February 15), Jetblue said it was converting another 30 options. This makes the airline the first customer ever to have ordered 100 Airbus A220s.

Airbus breaks the limit of 700 jets on order

So far, Jetblue has already received eight of the planes. “We have achieved double-digit increases in customer satisfaction ratings,” says airline boss Robin Hayes, also praising the fuel efficiency of the Airbus A220. The 30 additional copies enabled the Embraer E190 to be phased out more quickly, the airline writes.

With the new order, Airbus has broken through the limit of 700 firm orders for the A220, which includes orders from the C-Series era. The smaller A220-100 accounted for only 102 examples, while the A220-300 now accounts for 618. By the end of January 2022, 52 A220-100 and 143 A220-300 had already been delivered.
