Vienna – When Klaus Mäkelä is mentioned, everything revolves around his age: the Finnish conductor is only 27 years young, but he is still very busy. Mäkelä has been chief of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra since autumn 2020, took over the Orchester de Paris in 2021 and will head the Concertgebouw Orchestra from 2027. Three world-class orchestras under 30 in less than ten years – that’s quite a sensation. What is also sensational, however, is the maturity and composure with which the young maestro tackles the job.
