Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who visited Kyiv on Tuesday, acknowledged in an interview at the end of his visit that the Ukrainian president was “doubtful” of his proposal to first declare a ceasefire and then try to start peace talks, writes BBC.
In an interview with the Swiss publication Weltwoche, Orban repeated his offer to Ukraine and said that he simply wanted to know Zelensky’s opinion on the matter first.
“What does he think regarding the possibility of first declaring a ceasefire. Even a limited one: two, three, four weeks. And saying that during this ceasefire we can speed up the negotiations on the peace process,” Orban explained.
“He said he had doubts, that he didn’t like it very much,” the Hungarian prime minister said when asked how Zelensky had reacted. “He said: let’s think regarding it, let’s think regarding it. He has a bad experience with previous ceasefires: in his interpretation, they did not bring anything good to Ukraine.”
As before, Orban did not say what Moscow thought regarding this proposal – although the journalist did not ask him regarding it.
